About the Author
Mark Geanacopoulos
Mark Geanacopoulos
caught the science bug after a career as an educator in alternative
schools for troubled adolescents in Cambridge, Massachusetts. He
went on to receive a Ph.D. in Biochemistry from the University
of Virginia in 1993, where he studied the signaling mechanisms
that control the action of our circulating blood platelets in forming
blood clots. His
subsequent work at the National Institutes
of Health focused on the proteins
that bind to DNA and modulate gene
expression. Having
discovered in the course of his laboratory
research a passion for the communication
of science, he is embarking on a career in
science journalism. He lives in Olney,
Maryland with his wife and daughter.
